Call For Membership with Route Africa

This is an official announcement from Route Africa.

Membership with Route Africa is now open!

Route Africa is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping young, undiscovered writers. (Click here to know more).  We were established by a group of young writers mostly in Owerri, Nigeria, and our influence is gradually being felt on a national, and even global scale.

 

Who is Membership For?

To know who membership is for, you must know the membership structure at Route Africa. There are two categories of membership:

1. Club Membership
2. Non-Club Membership

 

An Club Member is an:

• Unknown and unannounced literary writer, poet, playwright, essayist, journalist, and dramatist, from any African Secondary School (grades 9 to 12) who will fully participate in the activities of Route Africa once it is established as a club in such secondary school.
• Unknown and unannounced literary writer, poet, playwright, essayist, journalist, and dramatist, from any African High School who will fully participate in the activities of Route Africa once it is established as a club in such high school.
• Unknown and unannounced literary writer, poet, playwright, essayist, journalist, and dramatist, from any Higher Institution in Africa who will fully participate in the activities of Route Africa once it is established as a club in such higher institution.
• Unknown and unannounced literary writer, poet, playwright, essayist, journalist, and dramatist, who does not have formal education, but is above the age of 16 who will fully participate in the activities of Route Africa in the closest Route Africa club in his/her locale.

 

If you fall into any one of these categories, huraray! you’re qualified to apply!

Note that the fact that Route Africa has not been established in your school does not mean that you cannot participate actively, as most of Route Africa’s major activities are conducted on electronic platforms.

 

A Non-Club Member is a:

• Person who was once a club member, but has graduated from active duties in the organization (as Route Africa is still less than a year old, this condition does not apply to anyone as yet).
• Person who was not once a club member, but has indicated interest in performing duties expected of a passive member, but is a known, announced, and/or previously published writer, poet, playwright, essayist, journalist, or dramatist. As of now, this is the only condition that can qualify one as a non-club member. A non-club member is required to play mostly supportive roles (details of which are to be offered at acceptance of non-club membership), and have the option to perform club membership roles as well.

 

What Benefits Are There In Being a Member?

Route Africa considers its club members as its primary product. That is to say that the organization is poised and fully dedicated to working on its members, and seeing that they become the best products they can be.

Every club member (and non-club member who chooses to engage in club membership duties) gains from membership with Route Africa in the following ways:

• Benefiting from effective and efficient network between he/she and other members, and between he/she and Route Africa’s partners.
• Benefiting from faster and more efficient promotion of his/her literary work by means of partnerships with other literary outfits invested in publishing and publicizing literary works.
• Benefiting from opportunities in the literary arts created for him/her by means of encouraging Route Africa partners/affiliates to offer promotion/publishing deals with him/her if he/she performs exceptionally.
• Benefiting from active efforts to make him/her aware of opportunities in the literary arts by means of Route Africa members being in the know and informing he/she when there are contests organized outside of Route Africa that he/she is eligible for.
• Benefiting from avenues provided by Route Africa’s institutional clubs dedicated to the personal development of his/her literary talents through in-house lectures, diverse activity unit participation, and in-house contests, and also through workshops, seminars, and open competitions, overseen, chaired, and judged respectively by notable literary icons.
• Having a chance to announce African “movers” (unique African business, artistic, literary, etc. entrepreneurs who still have start-up outfits or have not been made known to a wider audience) to the world by regularly and frequently finding them in whatever corner of Africa they are in and conducting interviews with them for their craft to be made public.
